Rockford is a city in Wright and Hennepin counties in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The population was 4,316 at the 2010 census. While Rockford is mainly located within Wright County, a little part of the city extends into Hennepin County. It is share of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan statistical area. Minnesota State Highway 55 serves as a main route in the city.

Evidence of native settlement in what is today Rockford can be found in burial mounds ranging from 500 to 1500 years old, as skillfully as a trail which runs below the Bridge Street Bridge upon the Hennepin County side.
The Place was a natural border home between the Ojibwe and Dakota, with both tribes utilizing the tune for hunting and wintering. Though the song was primarily utilized by the Dakota, there with existed an Objibwe village close modern-day Dayton, on the Crow River.

As colonial agreement widened in Wisconsin, the Ho-Chunk were pushed west and goaded to resettle near Rockford. Though the establishment of a reservation at the site was proposed, concerns were raised roughly the proximity of an native reservation so close to Minneapolis, a rapidly-developing economic middle at the time.
After the Treaty Traverse de Sioux in 1851, the house was opened to white settlers; after surveying was completed in 1854, plots became nearby for buy to homesteaders.
