Hoboken (/ˈhbkən/ HOH-boh-kən;[21] UnamiHupokàn[22]) is a city in Hudson CountyNew Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city’s population was 50,005,[10][11][12] having grown by 11,428 (+29.6%) from 38,577 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 5,180 (+15.5%) from the 33,397 in the 1990 Census.[23] Hoboken is part of the New York metropolitan area and is the site of Hoboken Terminal, a major transportation hub for the tri-state region. Hoboken was first settled as part of the Pavonia, New Netherland colony in the 17th century. During the early 19th century the city was developed by Colonel John Stevens, first as a resort and later as a residential neighborhood.

Originally part of Bergen Township and later North Bergen Township, it became a separate township in 1849 and was incorporated as a city in 1855. Hoboken is the location of the first recorded game of baseball and of the Stevens Institute of Technology, one of the oldest technological universities in the United States. It is also known as the birthplace and hometown of Frank Sinatra; various streets and parks in the city have been named after him. Located on the Hudson Waterfront, the city was an integral part of the Port of New York and New Jersey and home to major industries for most of the 20th century. The character of the city has changed from a blue collar town to one of upscale shops and condominiums.[24]

Hoboken, New Jersey Home Security

We recently purchased a house and being first-time buyers, we got phone calls from a couple of agencies like ADT, cable places, and the likes. They tried to give us deals, discounts, and promotional offers. We also got a call from SafeStreets USA and they came towards the end of September. They were our first choice as our security provider.

Burglaries Cost More than You Think

Being the victim of a home burglary can be a very distressing experience. Stress may become compounded once the financial impact of a burglary becomes apparent. According to the FBI, burglary victims in 2011 faced, on average, nearly $2,200 in property loss. This number doesn’t take into consideration additional expenses in the form of lost wages, insurance deductibles, and various other costs. Residents of some cities were victims of as many as 109101 property crimes and 27459 burglaries in 2011. Several of these burglaries could have been prevented had homeowners installed home security systems, which can deter potential intruders from breaking into a residence.

Why New Jersey Homeowners Choose ADT Monitoring Systems

There are many different reasons New Jersey residents choose ADT Security Monitoring to help protect their home & family from burglary and other disasters. But we thought we’d list just a few reasons for choosing SafeStreets USA and ADT.

Multiple types of protection. ADT monitored security systems not only help protect against burglaries and home invasion, but also helps against fire and even carbon monoxide poisoning. An alarm can help wake your family in case of smoke and fire. A panic button can also help contact police or fire department during an emergency, perhaps even saving your life.

Security equipment that’s easy to use. With just a push of a button you can easily arm and disarm your system. And with the panic button your family can quickly alert emergency response such as police or the need of an ambulance.

Dependable equipment and confident monitoring your home security system is monitored 24 hours a day and 365 days per year by trained staff at the ready. ADT provides great redundancy with 6 US monitoring centers your home is never unprotected. If one center is down then another automatically starts monitoring your home.

Quick deployment of first responders. At any time your alarm is triggered or you push the panic button, ADT’s monitoring centers will quickly try and verify your situation. If you are having an actual emergency ADT will immediately notify police or fire responders with your exact location and details.

Before they even head to school in the fall, make sure they know how to check the tire pressure, fill the washer fluid in the car, and do a light check, making sure all brake lights, headlights and blinkers are working. Also check the windshield wipers. Consider giving them a car safety kit as a going away gift, one that includes flares and jumper cables, in addition to blankets, water and spare food.

About one or two weeks before the trip home, encourage them (strongly) to get an oil change in addition to doing these other safety checks.

Once the car is ready, make sure they know the route, plan to drive in daylight only, and have a plan for stopping every couple of hours to rest and stretch their legs. Stress the importance of not driving while tired! If they have a mountain pass to cross or other hazardous conditions, then chains or other precautions (and how to use them) are a must.

If your child plans to get a ride with a friend, do your due diligence to ensure this friend is a safe and trusted driver. Find out when they plan to leave, the route they plan to travel, when they will stop to rest on the drive, etc. If you have any doubts at all about the reliability of this friend, you have the right to voice your concerns!

And charge that cell phone!
No matter how they’re traveling, also make sure they leave with fully charged cell phone batteries, or a way to easily charge en route (reminding them at the same time that texting or talking on the phone while driving is not okay).

Although letting them travel independently can be scarier for the parent than the child, the lessons they will learn about planning in advance, being safe while traveling or timing their travel are all life lessons they’ll carry with them always—lessons that didn’t cost you a penny in tuition, mind you!
