Salem (/ˈsləm/) is a historic coastal city in Essex County, Massachusetts located in the North Shore region. Continuous settlement by Europeans began in 1626 and Salem would become one of the most significant seaports in early American history. Salem is a residential and tourist area that is home to the House of Seven GablesSalem State UniversityPioneer Village, the Salem Maritime National Historic SiteSalem Willows Park, and the Peabody Essex Museum. It features historic residential neighborhoods in the Federal Street District and the Charter Street Historic District.[3][4][5][6]Much of the city’s cultural identity reflects its role as the location of the infamous Salem witch trials of 1692, as featured in Arthur Miller‘s The Crucible.

Police cars are adorned with witch logos, a public elementary school is known as Witchcraft Heights, and the Salem High School athletic teams are named the Witches. Gallows Hill was originally believed to be the site of numerous public hangings and is currently a park used as a playing field for various sports. In 2012, the Retailers Association of Massachusetts chose Salem for their inaugural “Best Shopping District” award.[7] On January 10, 2013, President Barack Obama signed executive order HR1339, designating Salem as the birthplace of the National Guard.[8][9][10][11] The city’s population was 41,340 at the 2010 census.[12]Salem is located at the mouth of the Naumkeag River at the former site of an Native American village and trading center.

Salem, Massachusetts Home Security

My husband travels a lot and so my two daughters and I are home alone. Our neighborhood is pretty safe but I wanted a little extra security. We live in a gated community, but sometimes, it’s more enticing. I encountered an Amazon driver that was a little skeptical and I felt like they hire everybody, and that was what freaked me out the most. I researched online and a person from ADT came here to speak with us. Their price seemed really good and it has been in the business for a long time so they’re reliable. Their people have all been very informative and the guy that installed the system did a really good job. We got the basic features and it was fantastic. We also have an option to add features in the future. It’s a great system and a great price for what you get.

Burglaries Cost More than You Think

Being the victim of a home burglary can be a very distressing experience. Stress may become compounded once the financial impact of a burglary becomes apparent. According to the FBI, burglary victims in 2011 faced, on average, nearly $2,200 in property loss. This number doesn’t take into consideration additional expenses in the form of lost wages, insurance deductibles, and various other costs. Residents of some cities were victims of as many as 109101 property crimes and 27459 burglaries in 2011. Several of these burglaries could have been prevented had homeowners installed home security systems, which can deter potential intruders from breaking into a residence.

Why Massachusetts Homeowners Choose ADT Monitoring Systems

There are many different reasons Massachusetts residents choose ADT Security Monitoring to help protect their home & family from burglary and other disasters. But we thought we’d list just a few reasons for choosing SafeStreets USA and ADT.

Multiple types of protection. ADT monitored security systems not only help protect against burglaries and home invasion, but also helps against fire and even carbon monoxide poisoning. An alarm can help wake your family in case of smoke and fire. A panic button can also help contact police or fire department during an emergency, perhaps even saving your life.

Security equipment that’s easy to use. With just a push of a button you can easily arm and disarm your system. And with the panic button your family can quickly alert emergency response such as police or the need of an ambulance.

Dependable equipment and confident monitoring your home security system is monitored 24 hours a day and 365 days per year by trained staff at the ready. ADT provides great redundancy with 6 US monitoring centers your home is never unprotected. If one center is down then another automatically starts monitoring your home.

Quick deployment of first responders. At any time your alarm is triggered or you push the panic button, ADT’s monitoring centers will quickly try and verify your situation. If you are having an actual emergency ADT will immediately notify police or fire responders with your exact location and details.

Tip: Things to know about home owners insurance

At our house, we’ve been talking about our mortgage payment because it switches to an adjustable rate mortgage at the end of this year and we’re nervous. We also got our property tax bill last week and it was significantly higher than in previous year’s—about 25% higher, which was a surprise. All that adds up to housing costs being top of mind today! ~ www.safestreetsusa.com

Fortunately, among the trifecta of home ownership costs—mortgage, property taxes and insurance—homeowners do have some control over one of the three at least: insurance.

One, how to lower the cost of your homeowner’s insurance
The Insurance Information Institute lists 12 practical ways to lower your homeowner’s insurance costs:

Two, get a home security system
A home security system can lower your costs for homeowner’s insurance by up to 20%, but a home security system is also a deterrent—and wouldn’t you rather avoid the burglary in the first place? Since 90% of burglars say they ignore a house with an obvious home security system, you’ll decrease the chance of a break-in, which protects not only your property but also your peace of mind.

Third, do an inventory just in case
Despite the best laid plans, your house might be burglarized. If that happens, you’ll lose items of monetary value, but you’ll also lose your sense of security—for a while, at least. It will be hard to feel safe in your own home. You can minimize the damage done by a burglary with an inventory done ahead of time. ~ read more
