Good company! I have never had any problems with them. Always there for us, and have never let us down. We love the abilities in our system when we are out of town, or just when we stay at home

Power went out while my daughter was preparing our traditional shrimp and grits. Soon after, we hastily left for grandparents’ home for early dinner. Before the meal was over, we got a call from ADT. My daughter forgot to turn off the burner under the shrimp. We arrived at a yard full of firemen. Lots of smoke, but praise God, no fire. ADT contacted me and notified the fire dept asap.

I was moved into a new home and I also live by myself. SafeStreets offered special pricing with my power company so I went with them. The sales process was all over the telephone which was good. Also, the guy who came and installed was great. It only took him a few hours to have the system installed. He then walked me through everything. Additionally, the features offered are just what I need. The quality is good and the cost is within my price range. Having the system definitely has put me at peace when I go to bed at night. I definitely recommend SafeStreets to others.

Weather Tip: During a Hurricane

During a Hurricane

If your local authorities have not issued a mandatory evacuation, use these hurricane safety tips to stay safer in the midst of a hurricane.

  • Keep up to date with conditions by staying tuned to the radio or television.
  • DO NOT go outside until you hear from authorities that the storm has passed your area completely.
  • Stay away from all windows and exterior doors.
  • Leave your home only in extreme circumstances (i.e., if your home is damaged or if authorities instruct you to do so).
  • If you lose power, avoid a power surge by turning off all major appliances.
  • Electrocution is also a threat if using electrical equipment in your home, so stay away from anything with running electricity and do not use the telephone except in an emergency.

Post Hurricane Safety

What you do after the hurricane passes can be just as important as what you do before and during the storm. Here are a few tips for what to focus on afterwards:

  • Stay informed of any updated instructions from local officials.
  • Only return to your home when it’s deemed safe.
  • Avoid downed power lines and other dangerous debris.
  • DO NOT attempt to walk or drive through floodwaters. It’s easy to overestimate your ability to navigate floods, but it can be extremely life threatening.
  • Take pictures of property damage to file an insurance claim.
  • Try preventing further damage to your home as insurance may not cover anything that occurs after the storm.

Practicing good hurricane safety might seem daunting, but a mix of common sense and preparedness can make all the difference for the safety of you and your family.

Why aggressive driving is worse than you thought

The American Automobile Association(AAA) estimates that 56% of accidents involve aggressive driving. An AAA study showed more than half of all fatal crashes involved unsafe driving behaviors associated with aggressive driving.
In 2016, speeding killed 10,111 people. In addition, the data shows 20% of drivers speeding in fatal crashes in 2016 had previously been involved in a crash and 26% had a previous speeding conviction. The NHTSA estimates fatalities and injuries could increase by 50% by 2020.
How to put a stop to aggressive driving. Once you see those numbers, I hope you’ll agree that driving aggressively is simply not worth the risk. So what can we do about it?

If you’re the one driving aggressively, start by recognizing and admitting to your behavior. You’re not going to get anywhere any faster by driving that way, and you are putting yourself and any passengers at risk. Try to relax and take a deep breath. Listen to soothing music or an audio book that will take your mind off your frustrations. Recognize when you’re getting in the car angry, such as after a bad day at work. You want to make it home safely, right? And you want everyone else to make it home safely too, I’m sure. So dial it back.

What if you’re driving safely but you’re on the receiving end of the dangers of an aggressive driver? Do not start driving like them or trying to get back at them. Instead, give them the benefit of the doubt and stay clear of them.

Just because a behavior has become the new normal does not mean we have to behave that way. We can put safety and security first. As for me, I’m ordering “Caution Horses” stickers for the back of my trailer…and taking a lot of deep breaths on my next road trip with those live animals in tow.
