Federal Heights is a Home Rule Municipality located in Adams County, Colorado, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 11,467, although 2019 updated numbers indicate 12,827 people live in the city. The current Mayor is Linda S. Montoya, who was elected to a four-year term in 2019. The community was named for its location on Federal Boulevard and was officially incorporated in 1940.
At the 2000 census there were 12,065 people, 5,125 households, and 3,023 families living in the city. The population density was 6,721.0 people per square mile (2,588.0/km2). There were 5,311 housing units at an average density of 2,958.6 per square mile (1,139.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 80.03% White, 1.46% African American, 1.38% Native American, 6.09% Asian, 0.18% Pacific Islander, 7.80% from other races, and 3.06% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 22.62%.
Of the 5,125 households 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.7% were married couples living together, 13.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.0% were non-families. 31.4% of households were one person and 9.9% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.97.
